1 南方科技大学研究生学位论文管理规定 (2016 年 6 月 22 日第六次研究生院工作委员会会议审议通过 ) 第一章总则 第一条 为了提高我校研究生学位论文质量, 规范研究 生学位论文撰写, 严明学术纪律, 加强研究生论文评选及抽 查管理, 根据国务院学位委员会和教育部的规章制度, 结合 我校具体实际, 制定本规定 第二条 研究生学位论文是研究生科学研究工作的全 面总结, 是描述其研究成果 代表其研究水平的重要学术文 献资料, 是申请和授予相应学位的基本依据 第三条 研究生学位论文必须符合学校的学位论文撰 写规范, 通过学位论文学术不端行为检测, 接受国家 省市 及学校的各级评选和抽查 第二章学位论文撰写规范 第四条 学位论文撰写是研究生培养过程的基本训练 之一, 必须按照确定的撰写规范认真执行 研究生应严肃认 真撰写学位论文, 指导教师应加强指导, 严格把关 第五条 学位论文撰写应实事求是, 杜绝造假和抄袭等 行为 ; 应符合国家及各专业部门制定的有关规定, 符合语法 规范

2 第六条 硕士和博士学位论文, 除在字数 理论研究的 深度及创造性成果等方面的要求不同外, 撰写的规范要求基 本一致 第七条 中文学位论文撰写的一般内容及格式要求请 参照本规定的附件 南方科技大学研究生学位论文中文论文 撰写指南 第八条 全英文撰写的学位论文的内容及格式要求与 中文撰写的学位论文的要求基本一致 学位论文的摘要应用中 英文两种文字给出, 且应包括不少于 3000 字的 详细的中文摘要 其撰写的一般内容及格式要求请参照本规定的附件 SUSTech Graduate Degree Dissertation Writing Guidelines 第九条 学位论文是研究生阶段成果的直接体现, 应送 往国家图书馆 校图书馆 档案馆归档, 永久保存, 供人查 阅 第三章学位论文收缴 保存和使用的管理 第十条 申请学位的研究生在论文答辩前应按要求签 署 原创性声明和使用授权说明 通过论文答辩的研究生应 向学校提交规定数量的学位论文印刷本和电子版本 第十一条 各培养单位应按学校要求, 收缴印刷本学位 论文并确认电子版论文提交后, 才能允许毕业生离校 第十二条 学位论文的保存使用 ( 一 ) 印刷本的保存使用

3 1. 印刷本学位论文只进行保存, 一般不提供读者服务 2. 硕博士论文, 除论文作者本人, 一般不予复制 3. 论文作者本人复制, 须出示有效证件 作者委托他人复制, 须出具作者签名的委托书, 受委托者须携带本人证件, 及作者证件复印件 ( 二 ) 电子版的保存使用 1. 在校园网范围内提供检索服务, 并根据作者授权提供全文阅读服务 2. 采取必要技术措施实现用户权限控制, 以保护著作权人的合法权益 第四章学位论文学术不端行为的处理 第十三条 学术不端行为是指在学术活动中的各种造 假 抄袭 剽窃等行为, 主要包括 : ( 一 ) 伪造或篡改实验数据 研究成果 ( 二 ) 抄袭他人的学术观点 实验方案 资料和数据等 ( 三 ) 将他人的学术成果作为自己学术成果的主要部分或实质性部分 ( 四 ) 未参加实际研究, 在他人公开的成果上署名 ; 未经他人同意签署他人姓名 ; 未经科研项目负责人同意标注资助项目等 ( 五 ) 提交学位申请材料时弄虚作假, 在学位授予工作各环节中, 通过不正当手段获取成绩

4 ( 六 ) 伪造导师或专家推荐信及其它评定 ( 或审批 ) 意见, 伪造导师或专家签名 ( 七 ) 一稿多投或稍作修改重复投稿 ( 八 ) 违反国家有关保密的法律 法规或学校有关保密制度 ( 九 ) 其它违背学术界公认的学术道德规范的行为 第十四条学术不端行为的处理原则, 包括 : ( 一 ) 实事求是原则 相关部门妥善保存举报资料和相关材料, 及时进行细致调查, 实事求是地予以处理 ( 二 ) 依法办事原则 调查处理过程中依法保护举报人和被举报人的名誉权 隐私权等合法权益, 保护被举报人的申诉权利以及相关当事人的知情权 ( 三 ) 教育和惩处相结合原则 对有学术不端行为的研究生视情节轻重给予批评教育及相应处理, 对其指导教师进行通报批评 第十五条研究生院学位办公室 ( 以下简称 学位办 ) 负责受理关于研究生学位论文的学术不端行为的举报, 负责组织相关调查和学位论文学术不端行为的认定 第十六条 学术不端行为的认定调查程序请参见 南方 科技大学研究生基本学术规范 的规定 第十七条 对尚未取得学位的学历教育研究生的学术 不端行为, 可视情节按以下方式处理 :

5 ( 一 ) 对情节较轻的学术不端行为, 结合当事人对其行为的认识态度给予口头警告 ( 二 ) 对于情节一般的学术不端行为, 给予当事人延期答辩处理 ( 三 ) 对于情节严重的学术不端行为, 给予当事人延期答辩处理并根据学校有关研究生管理规定给予处分 ( 四 ) 对情节恶劣 造成极坏影响的学术不端行为, 根据学校有关研究生管理规定, 取消当事人申请学位资格直至开除学籍 第十八条 对已经取得南方科技大学学位的研究生, 学 术不端行为情节严重的, 撤销已授予的学位, 收回学位证书和毕业证书 撤销授予学位的审议程序 : ( 一 ) 由学位办进一步核实材料, 如有必要可组织专家复审, 并转交到培养单位所在学位评定分委员会 ( 以下简称 学位分会 ) ( 二 ) 由学位分会对是否撤销学位进行审核和不记名投票表决, 并向校学位评定委员会提交报告 ( 三 ) 校学位评定委员会审议学位分会提交的报告, 进行不记名投票表决, 做出是否撤销授予学位的决定 ( 四 ) 对撤销的学位予以通报公布并报上级主管部门备案

6 第十九条 学位论文以及有研究生指导教师署名的公 开发表的论文被认定为有学术不端行为的研究生指导教师负有连带责任, 根据情节轻重, 由南方科技大学学位评定委员会做出相应的处理 : ( 一 ) 所指导的学位论文一次被认定有学术不端行为的, 在全校范围内对其通报批评, 并责成所在培养单位的负责人进行教育 ; ( 二 ) 指导教师已尽到足够义务 已对研究生进行了充分的反学术不端行为教育的, 南方科技大学学位评定委员会可根据具体情节从轻处理 第二十条 由南方科技大学资助的科研成果如果涉及 学术不端行为, 学校有权中止资助, 并公开声明这些研究工 作受到学术不端行为的影响 第二十一条 署名南方科技大学的科研成果如果涉及 学术不端行为, 未公开发表出版的责令当事人联系相关单位取消公开其成果 ; 已出版发表的应公开声明这些研究工作中存在学术不端行为 第五章优秀学位论文的评选 第二十二条 为提高研究生培养质量, 鼓励创新, 推动 我校的学术氛围建设, 建立激励机制, 有效保证我校博士 硕士研究生的学位论文质量, 在全校范围内开展优秀博士 硕士学位论文的评选活动

7 第二十三条 评选遵循 自愿 公平 公正 公开和鼓 励创新 严格筛选 宁缺毋滥 的原则进行 每年从已通过答 辩的研究生学位论文中评选出一定数量的论文为 南方科技 大学优秀博士 硕士学位论文, 并进行表彰 第二十四条 评选标准 ( 一 ) 论文选题跟踪学科前沿, 有较强的理论意义或现实意义 ; ( 二 ) 文献综述能够综合 全面地反映该学科及相关领域的发展与现状, 归纳 总结正确 ; ( 三 ) 研究内容在理论或方法上有所创新, 对该学科的科学研究起到重要作用 ; ( 四 ) 研究成果对解决国家经济建设 社会发展中的现实问题具有重要贡献, 或具有较大社会效益, 对学术研究和科技发展具有较大实用价值 ; ( 五 ) 论文符合各学科的学术规范, 材料翔实, 表述清楚 准确, 层次分明, 推理严密, 书写规范 ; ( 六 ) 申请者在攻读学位期间必须在本学科高水平期刊上正式发表过学术论文 ( 第一作者或导师为第一作者的第二作者 ) 第二十五条 评选工作在每年的 6 月份进行 评选对象 为本年度通过答辩的所有博士 硕士研究生的学位论文 评 选出的优秀博士学位论文的比例为当年已经通过答辩的研

8 究生总数 5% 优秀硕士论文的比例为通过答辩研究生总数 的 3% 第二十六条 评选工作在校学位评定委员会领导下, 由 学位办负责制定评选规定, 部署评选工作, 公布评选结果 各培养单位负责本单位优秀博士 硕士学位论文评选的具体工作, 各学位分会负责对本单位评选出的优秀博士 硕士学位论文进行审议, 产生学位分会推荐名单 第二十七条 评选程序 ( 一 ) 学科推荐 : 申请人填写 南方科技大学优秀博士 硕士学位论文评选申请表 提供相关的证明材料到学科, 由各培养单位对该论文做出一个客观公正的评价, 指出论文的创新之处 论文工作量大小 选题前沿性等问题, 并选拔推荐其中的优秀学位论文到培养单位参加评选 ( 二 ) 培养单位评选 : 各培养单位可以根据本单位情况参照各培养单位的评选规定和评分参考标准, 按照评选的指标 ( 博士 5% 硕士 3%) 组织评选, 产生初选优秀博士 硕士论文名单, 并报学位分会审议 ( 三 ) 学位分会审议 : 各学位分会对本单位初选的优秀博士 硕士学位论文进行审议, 产生学位分会推荐名单 ( 四 ) 校学位评定委员会核准 : 校学位评定委员会对入选名单最后审定 核准 第二十八条 为了增加校优秀博士 硕士学位论文评选

9 工作的透明度, 提高评选结果的公正性和准确性, 维护良好的学术风气和科学道德, 保证优秀博士 硕士学位论文的评选质量, 设立为期 5 个工作日的争议期 在争议期, 对校学位评定委员会审定的 南方科技大学优秀博士 硕士学位论文 名单予以公布, 广泛听取各方面的意见 任何单位或个人, 均可以书面方式或电子邮件方式提出异议 学位办对提出异议的单位和个人予以保密 如经过调查, 确认存在严重问题的, 学位办将撤消对获奖作者的奖励, 并将处理结果予以公布 第二十九条 议期结束后, 由学位办公布 南方科技大 学优秀博士 硕士学位论文 名单, 为获奖作者和指导教师颁 发荣誉证书 第六章学位论文抽查 第三十条 研究生学位论文抽查工作每年开展一次, 安 排在每年的 10 月上旬进行, 主要抽查上一学年度获得研究 生学位者的学位论文 第三十一条 研究生学位论文抽查采取指定抽查和随 机抽查两种方式就行 第三十二条指定抽查范围包括 : ( 一 ) 在上级研究生教育管理部门组织的论文抽查中有 不合格 评价意见论文的指导教师所指导的研究生学位论文, 且连续指定抽查三年 ;

10 ( 二 ) 在上一年度校级论文抽查中有 不合格 评价意见论文的指导教师所指导的研究生学位论文 ; ( 三 ) 新任指导教师指导的第一届毕业研究生的学位论文 ; ( 四 ) 申请提前答辩的研究生和在职攻读学位研究生的学位论文 ; ( 五 ) 上一年度学位论文评审不合格记录超过 2 次的导师所指导的研究生学位论文 ; ( 六 ) 上一年度学位论文查重检测不合格记录超过 2 次的导师所指导的研究生学位论文 ; ( 七 ) 研究生培养过程中未按要求完成培养环节或被列为重点跟踪对象的研究生学位论文 ; ( 八 ) 新批学位授权点产出的学位论文 ; ( 九 ) 当年指导学位论文超过 4 篇的导师所指导的博士论文 ; ( 十 ) 在同行专家中有较大争议的学位论文 ; ( 十一 ) 上一年度学位论文抽查中, 论文评阅质量较差的培养单位的学位论文 ; ( 十二 ) 有抄袭和引文不当等学术失范嫌疑的学位论文 ; ( 十三 ) 其他有质量问题的学位论文 第三十三条 随机抽查范围为学校所有学科, 由学位论 文抽查评审系统按照抽查比例随机产生抽查名单 抽查比例

11 以上年度授予学位总人数为基数, 其中博士学位论文抽查总 比例为 20%, 硕士学位论文抽查比例按研究生类型各位 10% 第三十四条 被抽查的学位论文由学位办从图书馆或 档案馆直接调取 第三十五条 研究生学位论文抽查评审工作由学位办 负责组织实施, 聘请校外两名以上同行专家进行匿名通讯评议或委托第三方评估机构进行同行专家匿名通讯评议 第三十六条被抽查的学位论文评议意见分为 合格 不合格 两档 第三十七条 学位办对各培养单位抽查论文的评审结 果按学科进行汇总后, 上报校学位评定委员会审批, 并在全 校进行通报 第三十八条 上级研究生教育管理部门和校级组织的 任一论文抽检中, 送审专家中有半数以上 ( 含半数 ) 专家评议意见为 不合格 的学位论文, 将认定为 存在问题学位论文 对出现 存在问题学位论文 的导师, 暂停其下一年度的相应招生资格, 并核减其所在培养单位 2 个相应招生名额 ; 对连续 2 年出现 存在问题学位论文 的导师, 将暂停其相应招生资格 5 年, 并核减其所在培养单位 4 个相应招生名额 暂停招生期间, 再次指导出 存在问题学位论文 的, 学校将撤销其指导教师资格, 且 5 年内不在接受其指导教师资格申请

12 第三十九条对出现 存在问题学位论文 的培养单位, 应进行限期整改 ; 对连续 3 年出现 存在问题学位论文 的培 养单位, 将依据相关程序取消其下一年度研究生招生权 第四十条 对抽查评审过程中发现论文有抄袭 剽窃 作假等问题者, 参照学术不端行为进行处理 第四十一条 对抽查评审结果有异议时, 由培养单位负 责人向所属学位分会提出申诉, 经学位分会讨论并签署意见后由学位办组织专家进行复审, 复审结果提交校学位评定委员会裁定 第七章附则 第四十二条 联合培养研究生的学位论文管理规定请 参见联合培养项目说明 第四十三条 已设立学位分会的培养单位请遵照以上 要求和程序进行学位论文学术不端行为的处理 优秀学位论文的评选和学位论文的抽查 未设立学位分会的培养单位在进行上述工作时, 由本培养单位 Tenure Track 系列教师组成评审小组履行学位分会的职责 Tenure Track 系列教师超过 7 人的培养单位, 到会成员达到全体成员的三分之二 ( 含 ) 以上且不低于 7 人时, 会议方为有效, 经全体成员过半数 ( 不含半数 ) 以上同意为通过 Tenure Track 系列教师少于 7 人 ( 含 ) 的培养单位, 需全体成员到会, 会议方为有效, 经全体成员过半数 ( 不含半数 ) 以上同意为通过

14 附件 1 南方科技大学研究生学位论文中文论文撰写指南总则 我校联合培养项目研究生 ( 境内境外 ) 必须严格按照合作学校的学位论文提交要求进行撰写 一 结构与内容学位论文要求内容完整, 立论正确, 数据可靠, 说理透彻, 推理严谨, 层次分明, 文字简练 必须是一篇 ( 或一组相关论文组成的一篇 ) 系统完整的 有创造性的学术论文 学位论文的撰写应遵循学术道德规范, 避免涉嫌抄袭 剽窃等学术不端行为 学位论文的书写, 除表达形式上需要遵循一定的格式要求外, 内容上也要符合一定的要求 通常学位论文只能有一个主题 ( 不能是几块工作拼凑在一起 ), 该主题应针对某学科领域中的一个具体问题展开深入 系统的研究, 并得出有价值的研究结论 论文中如出现一个非通用性的新名词 新术语或新概念, 需随即解释清楚 [1,2] 文中采用的术语 符号 代号, 全文必须统一, 并符合规范化的要求 如果文中使用新的专业术语 缩略语 习惯用语, 应加以注释 国外新的专业术语 缩略语, 必须在译文后用圆括号注明原文 学位论文的插图 照片必须确保能复制或缩微 非经学位办公室批准, 除古汉语研究中涉及的古文字和参考文献中引用的外文文献, 以及外国语言文学的论文之外, 学位论文均应采用国家正式公布实施的 [3] 简化汉字撰写 计量单位采用法定的计量单位 除下文有特殊要求外, 中文用宋体字, 英文和阿拉伯数字用 Times New Roman 字体, 段落首行缩进两个汉字符 学位论文一般应由 11 个主要部分组成, 依次为 : 1. 封面,2. 版权声明,3. 中文摘要,4. 英文摘要 (ABSTRACT),5. 目录, 6. 正文 ( 含引言和结论 ),7. 参考文献 8. 附录,9. 致谢 后记或说明,10. 学位论文原创性声明和授权使用说明,11. 个人简历 学位论文如果有缩略词或者

15 符号表, 可以放到目录之后 正文之前 ( 5-6 之间 ) 以上各部分独立为一部分, 每部分从新的一页开始 各部分具体要求如下 : ( 一 ) 封面学位论文应采用研究生院指定的统一封面, 博士用青绿色封面, 硕士用黄色封面 封面上的校徽和 南方科技大学 字样应采用学校发布的核准版本 封面上应居中填写 : 论文题目 姓名 学号 院系 专业 研究方向 导师 完成年月等信息 题目包含的关键词是检索论文的重要信息, 也是对研究对象的准确具体的描述, 应准确概括整个论文的核心内容, 简明扼要, 一目了然 因此, 好的论文题目不仅应告诉读者这本论文研究了什么问题, 更要告诉读者这个研究得出的结论 一般不宜超过 20 个汉字 ( 符 ), 采用一号黑体字, 居中填写, 一行写不完可以分两行填写 如有副标题, 在主标题和副标题之间用破折号间隔 院系填写培养院系全称, 不得使用简称, 院系名称前也不写 南方科技大学 六个字 专业应使用学位管理系统中标准的专业名称, 不得增减字 导师一栏应填写学籍管理系统中的导师姓名, 后衬 教授 研究员 等导师职称 若指导教师多于一人, 则分行署名 作者及导师信息部分使用三号仿宋字 完成论文日期用三号宋体汉字, 如 二〇一六年五月, 不用阿拉伯数字 如需英文内封的, 可以紧接中文封面之后, 项目内容和中文封面内容一致 ( 二 ) 版权声明版权声明为全校统一格式 内容 请参见下文 :

16 版权声明 任何收存和保管本论文各种版本的单位和个人, 未经本论文作者同意, 不得 将本论文转借他人, 亦不得随意复制 抄录 拍照或以任何方式传播 否则, 引 起有碍作者著作权之问题, 将可能承担法律责任

17 ( 三 ) 中文摘要论文的摘要, 是对论文研究内容的高度概括, 应包括 : 对问题及研究目的的描述 对研究方法和过程进行的简要介绍 对研究结论的简要概括等内容 摘要应具有独立性 自明性, 应是一篇简短但意义完整的文章 通过阅读论文摘要, 读者应该能够对论文的研究方法及结论有一个整体性的了解, 因此摘要的写法应力求精确简明 论文摘要切忌写成全文的提纲, 尤其要避免 第一章 ; 第二章 ; 这样的陈述方式 中文摘要部分的标题为 摘要, 用黑体三号字, 居中书写, 单倍行距, 段前空 24 磅, 段后空 18 磅 摘要内容用小四号宋体字两端对齐书写, 段落首行空两个汉字符, 行距为固定值 20 磅, 段前空 0 磅, 段后空 0 磅 博士中文摘要一般 汉字 ( 符 ), 硕士论文摘要一般 600 汉字左右 内容一般包括 : 论文研究的目的和意义 ; 完成的工作和方法 ( 作者独立进行的研究工作的概括性叙述 ); 获得的主要结论或提出的主要观点 ( 这是摘要的中心内容 ) 硕士学位论文摘要应突出论文的新见解, 博士学位论文摘要应突出论文的创新点 论文摘要不能出现图片 表格或其他插图材料 论文的关键词, 是为了文献标引工作从论文中选取出来用以表示全文主题内容信息的单词或术语, 应有 3~5 个, 每个关键词之间用逗号间隔 关键词放摘要页最下方, 从新的一行撰写 如果论文的主体工作得到了有关基金资助, 应在摘要第一页的页脚处标注 : 本研究得到某某基金 ( 编号 : ) 资助 ( 四 ) 英文摘要英文摘要由上到下应包含英文题目 作者姓名 专业名称 ( 用括号括起放姓名之后 ) 指导教师姓名 ABSTRACT 英文摘要内容和关键词( KEY WORDS) 英文题目用 Arial 三号字体, 居中书写, 单倍行距, 段前空 24 磅, 段后空 18 磅 作者姓名 专业名称 ( 用括号括起放姓名之后 ) 和指导教师姓名用 Times New

18 Roman 小四号字体, 居中书写, 固定行距 20 磅, 段前 段后空 0 磅 ABSTRACT 用 Arial 小四号字体居中书写, 固定行距 20 磅, 段前空 8 磅, 段后空 6 磅 摘要内容和关键词 (KEY WORDS) 用小四号 Times New Roman 字体书写, 两端对齐, 标点符号用英文标点符号 固定行距 20 磅, 段前 段后空 0 磅 KEY WORDS 大写, 其后的关键词第一个字母大写, 关键词之间用半角逗号间隔 关键词放英文摘要页下方, 从新的一行写起 英文摘要的内容应与中文摘要一致 ( 五 ) 目录目录既是论文的提纲, 也是论文组成部分的小标题 目录由章节序号 标题名称和页码组成 章节序号, 一般是下级引用上级序号, 如 表示第二章第 2 节第 5 小节 目录一般列到三级标题, 即二级节标题 ( 如 2.2.5) 即可 目录内容一般从第一章引言开始, 目录之前的内容及目录本身不列入目录内 目录中的章标题行采用黑体小四号字, 固定行距 20 磅, 段前空 6 磅, 段后 0 磅 ; 其他内容采用宋体小四号字, 行距为固定值 20 磅, 段前 段后均为 0 磅 目录中的章标题行居左书写, 一级节标题行缩进 1 个汉字符, 二级节标题行缩进 2 个汉字符 论文的图表一般不用专门制作目录, 如确有必要, 可另起一页放到本目录之后 主要符号对照表 : 如果论文中使用了大量的符号 标志 缩略词 专门计量单位 自定义名词和术语等, 应编写 主要符号对照表 如果上述符号和缩略词数量不多, 可以不设专门的 主要符号对照表, 在论文中出现时随即加以说明即可 主要符号对照表 放目录之后 正文之前 格式上 主要符号对照表 同 章 标题, 内容同正文格式 ( 六 ) 正文正文是学位论文的主体, 根据学科专业特点和选题情况, 可以有不同的写作方式 但必须言之成理, 论据可靠, 严格遵循本学科国际通行的学术规范 内容包括 : 第一章引言 ( 或绪论 序言 导论等 ), 第二章,, 第 章结论与展

38 Attachment 2 Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Graduate Degree Dissertation Writing Guidelines General Principles: Graduate students (both domestic and overseas) of the joint-training programs in our school are to follow the dissertation writing guidelines in strict accordance with the partner school s academic dissertation requirements for the submission of written work. Chapter One: Structure and Content An academic dissertation requires content to be intact and well arranged, provide correct argument, reliable data, thorough and precise reasoning, and concise text. It must be a systematic and creative academic paper (or a group of related papers). The writing of a dissertation should follow the academic code of ethics, avoiding plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct. For the writing of a dissertation, besides adhering to a particular format requirement, the content also needs to meet a specific standard. Normally, a dissertation consists of only one topic (it cannot be a combination of different work projects). This topic should aim to provide deeper and systematic research of a specific question in a certain field of study, in order to obtain a valuable research conclusion. While writing the dissertation, when a non-universal terminology, expression, or concept appears, a thorough explanation needs to be provided. All terminologies, punctuation and codes used in the paper need to be uniform and meet the standard requirements. When utilizing new technical terminology, an abbreviation, or idiom, an annotation should follow. The original text of any new foreign professional terminology and abbreviation used must be indicated within parentheses directly after the translation. Illustrations and photos used in the dissertation must be of such quality that they can be duplicated or magnified. The following are special requirements: Chinese characters should utilize the Song typeface, English and Arabic numerals should utilize Times New Roman, and paragraph indentation should be equivalent to the space of two Chinese characters (or 0.5cm). In addition, an academic dissertation normally utilizes eleven (11) main sections, sequenced as follows:

39 1. Title Page 2. Copyright Page 3. Chinese Abstract 4. English Abstract 5. Table of Contents 6. Main body of text (including the introduction and conclusion) 7. References/Bibliography 8. Appendix 9. Acknowledgements, Epilogue or Explanations 10. Declaration of Originality and Right of Use instructions 11. Curriculum Vitae (CV) Abbreviation or symbol tables can be placed after the table of contents, but before the main body (between section 5 and 6). All sections listed above are independent; every section should start on a new page. Specifications for each section are as follows: 1.1 Title Page Dissertations should use the uniform cover designated by the graduate school; Doctorates (PhD) should use the turquoise cover and Masters use the yellow cover. The school logo and name on the cover should follow the approved version published by the school. The following should be written in the middle of the cover: dissertation title, student name, student ID, department, major, research field, advisor name, completion year and month, etc. Title: The title consists of a group of keywords with important information for dissertation retrieval. It also accurately expresses the object of study, precisely summarizes the core contents of the dissertation, is brief and to the point, and is clear at a glance. Therefore, a good dissertation title not only informs the reader of the research question, it also informs the reader of the conclusion obtained. Enter the title of your dissertation in all capital letters and center justified. Use word substitutes for all formulas, symbols, superscripts, Greek letters, etc. Department: Spell out the full name of the department, abbreviation cannot be used. Southern University of Science and Technology does not need to be written in front of the department name.

40 Major: Use the exact name of the major appearing on the degree management system, do not add or subtract any wording(s). Advisor: Write out the advisor s full name in accordance with the management system; include all corresponding credentials associated with him/her (i.e. professor, researcher, and other related titles). If there is more than one advisor, list them on separate lines. Author: The complete name of the author in accordance with the school management system (Registrar). Date: Enter the month and year of degree conferral at the bottom of the page, center justified (no comma between the month and the year). 1.2 Copyright Page Copyright statement follows the school s uniform format and content. 42 1.3 English Abstract Every copy of the dissertation must have an English abstract. Abstracts must provide a concise summary of the dissertation (350 words or less). An English title uses the Times New Roman font, size 18 points, is center justified, single-spaced, 24 points before and 18 points after the title. The content and keywords use the Times New Roman font, size 12 points, justified, utilize English punctuation marks, double-spaced, 0 points before and after each paragraph. The word KEYWORDS is all capitalized; for the actual keywords, only capitalize the first letter of each word, separated by commas. Keywords are placed below the abstract, starting a new line. 1.4 Chinese Abstract The abstract is a high-level summary of the dissertation. It includes the following: statement of the problem, description of the methods and procedures used, and gives a brief summary of the main results or conclusions. The abstract should be independent and self-evident. It should be a brief, but meaningful article. The Chinese Abstract s title is written as ABSTRACT, using Black font type, size 16 points, center justified, single-spaced, 24 points before and 18 points after each paragraph. The font is the content is Song font type, size number small 4, justified, 2 Chinese characters hanging indentation, 20 points between lines, 0 points before and after paragraph. Every copy of the dissertation must include a detailed abstract in Chinese not less than 3000 words, the content in the English and Chinese versions of the abstract may not correspond exactly. The content usually includes: the research purpose and meaning; completed works and methods (summary of the author s independent research work); and conclusions and recommendations (this is the main content of the abstract). No picture, chart, or other illustration materials should appear in the abstract. Dissertation keywords are words and terms that represents the full content

43 information, selected for the purpose of the document indexing task. There should be three to five keywords, each separated by a comma, located at the bottom of the abstract page. If the research received related funding from a foundation, the following should be written as a footnote of the first page of the abstract: This research received funding from such and such foundation. The Chinese abstract content should match that of the English abstract. 1.5 Table of Contents The Table of Contents is an outline of the dissertation, and also the subtitle for the constituent parts of the dissertation. It is composed of the chapter number and name, and the page number. No matter how many headings are in the thesis (e.g ), in the table of contents it is shown only to the third level of the heading (e.g ). The Table of Contents normally starts the first chapter with the Preface. The content before the Table of Contents is not part of the Table of Contents. Prefaces and titles in the Table of Content should be in bold Times New Roman font, size 12 points, and the rest content should be in Times New Roman font, size 12 points. The title of the Table of Contents starts on the left margin, with a hanging indentation of 0.5 cm for each subsection. Tables and Illustrations normally do not need a Table of Contents, if needed, one can be provided on a separate sheet of paper following the Table of Contents Main Symbols Table A Main Symbols Table should be prepared if you use a large amount of symbols, signs, abbreviations, specialized measurement units, and customized terms and phrases, otherwise, describe it (the symbol, sign etc.) immediately when it appears in the dissertation. Place the Main Symbols Table after the Table of Contents, but before the Main Body of Text. The Main Symbols Table title follows the same format as the chapter name, and the content follows the main body of text.

44 1.5.2 Main Body of Text The main body is the principal part of a dissertation; based on the course specialism characteristics and topic selection, writing methods can vary. It must be justified, with reliable arguments, and strictly abide by the international academic standards for the course. Content includes: Chapter One: Preface (Introduction, Foreword, etc.), Chapter Two,, and ending with chapters for conclusion and recommendations. The writing must be clear with logical contents. Preface: The preface needs to discuss the significance of the topic selection in a dissertation, domestic and overseas research status, question to be solved, main theories and methods applied, basic ideas, and structure of the dissertation. It includes the following sections: a. Research Question; b. Research Background and Significance; c. Literature Review; d. Methodology; e. Dissertation Structure Arrangement. Research Question: Needs to articulate clearly what the research question is. Research Background and Significance: Needs to discuss clearly why you choose this topic to research. Elaborates on the contributions made by the research for the development of the subject, and the theoretical and practical significance to the national economy. Literature Review: Thorough, comprehensive review on the literature within the scope of the research topic. At the same time, the literature review should narrate and evaluate; pointing out the existing research status and outstanding problems. It should state the exploratory contents of your research. Methodology: Clearly specifies the scientific research approaches utilized. Dissertation Structure Arrangement: Introduces the writing structure arrangement. Style of writing for Chapter Two, Chapter Three,, Chapter before the conclusion.

45 This section is the author s research content, it cannot amalgamate other people s research results into the dissertation without appropriate citations. There needs to be an organic connection between chapters, and a logical order of organization. Style of writing for the conclusion and prospect The last chapter focuses on summarizing the innovation points or new insights and the research recommendation or suggestion of the dissertation. Base the conclusion on the main research findings, and refinery and summarization of the arguments. It needs to be accurate, concise, complete, and structural. It should give readers a comprehensive understanding of the significance, purpose, and content in the dissertation. Primarily, it should elaborate on your creative work; and the status, role, and significance to the subject field obtained from the research outcomes. In conclusion, it should strictly distinguish your results obtained from those of the advisor and others. When evaluating your research results, be practical and realistic; unless there is sufficient evidence to prove that your study is the first, pioneer, or leading, you should avoid using these or similar wordings. Recommendations and suggestions, based on the research work summary and existing conclusion, forecast the future development path and significant research content in the research field. At the same time, potential applications should be evaluated, as should any social influence of the research results obtained, to inspire future research. 1.6 Title The title needs to stand out and be to the point, formatted as follows: Chapter Title, for example: Chapter One: Preface. Section heading, for example: 2.1 Experimental Devices and Method Major subsection heading, for example: Experimental Devices Minor subsection heading, for example: Method of Induction Under normal circumstances, it is not recommended to use more than three levels of section heading.

46 1.6.1 Paragraph Text Utilize Times New Roman font size 12 points. Hanging indentation of 0.5cm, doubled-spaced, 0 points before and after each paragraph Footnotes When a comment is needed to be made for a particular sentence, while the comment has little to do with the content of the main body text, a footnote can be utilized. At the end of the sentence add a superscripted 1,2,3, etc. At the bottom of the page, insert the comments accordingly to the superscripted number. Footnotes should be in Times New Roman font face size 10, justified, single line spaced. Footnotes numbering is by page; footnotes numbering does not continue to the next page Figures, Charts and Photographs Figures, tables, graphs, etc., should be positioned according to the scientific publication conventions of the discipline. Illustrations must be drawn using ink that permits microfilming and high quality photocopying. (For the same reason, color-coding is not ideal for graphs, charts, etc.). Charts, graphs, maps, and tables that are larger than the standard page size should be avoided. Overlays must be meticulously aligned and positioned. Photographs may be incorporated into the dissertation. High contrast photos reproduce well. Photographs with a glossy finish and photographs with dark backgrounds should be avoided. Illustrative materials which cannot be conveniently bound in the text (such as maps and slides) should be packed in such a way that it can be bound with the dissertation. If the amount of such materials is substantial, it should be gathered into a supplementary volume and packed in a rigid container similar in format to the bound dissertation. All loose materials should be marked with the candidate s name and degree for which the work is submitted, so that it can be readily linked with the dissertation, and a list of the loose items should be provided. 1.7 References/Bibliography The references section of your paper will include a list of all the sources that you

47 used in your paper. Your references should begin on a new page. Title the new page References and center the title text at the top of the page. All entries should be in alphabetical order. The first line of a reference should be flush with the left margin. Each additional line should be indented (usually accomplished by using the TAB key). The reference section should be double-spaced. All sources cited should appear both in-text and on the reference page. Any reference that appears in the text of your dissertation must be cited on the references page, and any item appearing on your reference page must be also included somewhere in the body of your dissertation. Titles of books, journals, magazines, and newspapers should appear in italics. How you reference different sources varies depending on the number of authors to whom the source is attributed. For example, the way that you reference a single author will differ somewhat from how you reference a source with multiple authors. Reference for No Author Articles and other works that do not provide an author attribution should begin with the title of the work. If the title is a book, list the title first in italics. The volume number and page numbers should follow article titles, while book titles should be followed by the location and publisher name. Reference for a Single Author Works by a single author should list the author s last name and initials. The date of publication should be enclosed in parentheses and followed by the title of the article or book. Books and journals titles should be listed in italics. The volume number and page numbers of the article should follow journal titles, while book titles should be followed by the location and name of the publisher. For example: McCrae, R. R. (1993). Next, the title of the book or journal should be listed in italics. If the reference is a journal article, provide the volume number and page numbers. The title of the journal or the book title should be provided in italics. Newark, NJ: Prentice-Hall. 1.8 Appendix Appendix is closely related to the content of the dissertation; if inserted into the main boy text, it will affect the rational and logical aspect of the dissertation. It is considered as supplementary to the dissertation; it is not necessary. The following contents can be placed in the appendix: a. Overly long formula derivation; b. Auxiliary teaching tools and forms to help reader better understand the dissertation; c. Repetitive data and charts; d. Necessary procedure instructions and procedure full-text; e. Key questionnaires and plans. It is listed in sequence by capital letters (i.e.: A, B, C, ). Even if there is only one item for the appendix, it still needs to be numbered. The title of the appendix is capitalized, center justified. Example: APPENDIX A: BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCE RULES AND PRECAUTIONS. 1.9 Acknowledgements, Declaration of Originality, and Right of Use Instructions An acknowledgement page (Epilogue or Explanation) usually follows the main body text and the appendix. It is mainly to express thanks to your advisor and those

50 who had assisted and contributed to the research process. Acknowledgements should be worded in a modest and sincere way; be practical and realistic. The word count should not exceed 1000 words. Generally, express your gratitude to: a. Advisor who guided or help guided you to the completion of the dissertation. b. National Science Foundation, Funded Research Scholarship Foundation, contracted unit, privately funded and supporting enterprises, group, or individuals; c. Individual or group that helps assist or facilitate the research; d. Individual or group who provides recommendations and help; e. Individual or group who gives the rights to reprint and references information, pictures, documents, thoughts, and ideas; f. All other individuals and groups that deserve gratitude. There is no need to sign on the electronic version; a signature is needed on the bound version. A dissertation and results published during the school semester period can be placed after the appendix, before the acknowledgement. Publications follow the same list format as the references Curriculum Vitae (CV) A Curriculum Vitae normally includes education and work experience, beginning from the start of college.

54 Chapter Two: Page Size and Specifications Scripts and Page Format: A thesis should be presented in a permanent and legible form, either in original typescript, or a comparably permanent process. Paper and print quality are vitally important for successful microfilming and legibility. Normally, international A4 80 to 90 gsm wood-free white paper (210mm x 297mm) of good quality should be used for the thesis which should be printed on both sides of the paper. Exceptionally, paper other than international A4 size may be used when the nature of the thesis requires it. Any thesis not typed or printed on the correct size of paper will not be accepted. All margins should be consistently 25mm (or at a maximum of 30mm) in width. The same margins should be used throughout a thesis. Exceptionally, margins of a different size may be used when the nature of the thesis requires it. Header: In addition to outside and inside cover pages, each page should have a header: There are double lines above the text area (thick line on top width 0.8mm), the header should be centered and in Times New Roman, size 9-point. For PhD thesis, headers on odd pages are the preface and title of the chapter. Headers on even pages are PhD thesis of Southern University of Science and Technology. A Master s degree thesis should be printed on one side, the header is Master s degree thesis of Southern University of Science and Technology. Pagination: Pagination of the body of the text and appendices is to be in Arabic numerals centered at the bottom of the page. The pagination begins with the first page of the first chapter and continues throughout the rest of the text. Pages with tables, maps, photographs, etc. are to be numbered as well. Open a new page only after each chapter or section but not a sub-section.

55 Pagination of materials preceding the body of the text is to be in small Roman numerals centered at the bottom of the page. Chapter Three: Printing and Binding Requirements 1. Dissertation must be printed, cannot be handwritten. 2. Double-sided printing with the exception of the Title Page and the Declaration of Originality. 3. Printed on the uniform designated Title Page with the correct school logo and name for Master Dissertation or Doctorate Dissertation. Fill out all fields on the Title Page carefully and accurately. 4. Words and punctuation must be clear, correct, and neat; photographs and tables must be clear, duplicable, and able to be compressed in size. 5. Dissertation binding on the left-hand side. 6. Title Page paper weight of no less than the standard 200g. 7. The title (print on two rows if the title is long), year, and student ID should be printed on the spine of the dissertation. A dissertation of less than 50 pages needs to bind enough blank white papers to meet the requirement. 8. A prohibited dissertation should seek the binding location specified by the Privacy Office. The binding format requirement is the same as an ordinary dissertation.
