Key Laboratory of A rid C lim ate Change and Reducing D isaster of Gansu Province, Lanzhou , China) Abstract:Based on the meteorological data of dust weather, the daily mean temperature and p recip itation inm inqin in sp ring from 1976 to 2005, the temporal and spatial characteristics of dust weather and relations between dust weather and weather conditions, water re2 sources as well as human activities were analyzed. The results show that most of the dust weather occurred from noon to evening and las2 ted for 1 to 2 hours, and it p resented decreasing trend. Dust weather has negative correlation with p recip itation in M inqin area in sp ring. It was also revealed that the special geographical location, the significant reduction of Shiyang R iver runoff and population growth and so on resulted in more dust weather in sp ring. Key words: M inqin area; sp ring; dust weather; cause ( 33 ) Rela tion sh ip Between Pac if ic SST and Spr ing, Summ er Tem pera ture over Q ingha i - X izang Pla teau L IU Q ingchun, SH I Xinghe, WANG Q ingchun, FENG Shuqing, ZHAO Yongye (Q inghai Provincial M eteorological B ureau, X i ning , China) Abstract: The clustering analysismethod is used to divide the temperature field in sp ring and summer over the Q inghai - Xizang Plat2 eau into three areas for p redicting the temperature trends of different areas. Based on the correlation between the temperature indexes in sp ring and summer over the Plateau and the Pacific SST in the p receding season, the SST distribution index is defined. W hen the winter SST over the western Pacific is higher ( lower) than normal, the sp ring temperature in A reas II of the Plateau is higher ( low2 er) ; while the winter SST in the western and eastern Pacific is higher ( lower) than norm al, the summ er temperature over southern A reas II and A reas III of the Plateau is higher ( lower). Further analysis are conducted about the correlation between these two SST distributions and the 500 hpa geopotential height field in sp ring and summer in the Northern Hem isphere. The results show that when the winter western Pacific SST index is higher ( lower), the cold air activities over high latitude weaken ( strengthen) and its moving route northward ( southward) ; meanwhile, the geopotential height field is lower ( higher), it is advantageous ( disadvantageous) to the southern air current moving northward and the circulation conversion from the winter type to the summ er one, and the sp ring tem 2 perature over the central Plateau is higher ( lower) than norm al. In contrast, when the integrated index of winter SST in the western and eastern Pacific is higher ( lower), the northern Plateau to southern central - Siberia ridge and the western Pacific subtrop ical high in summ er strengthen (weaken), and the Plateau controlled by high system, the summer temperature over the central and southern Plateau is higher( lower).
