1 Regional Economy [ ] [ ] [ ] F127 [ ] A [ ] (2012 ) [ ] JL10 [ ] ( ) Abstract Since the inception of the reform and opening up policy in 1978 the industry structure of Jiangxi province has significantly changed from the initial pattern of one two three into two three one. From the perspective of the location quotient the article studies the industry structure between industries and the industry structure within the industry to discover the competitive industries. We have found that the competitive industry in three industries is first industry, and other two industries competitiveness is lower than the national level. The most competitive industry within the first industry is forestry and the next one is fishery. Within second industry dominated by small and medium - sized enterprises non - ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing is the most competitive one. Within third industry, communication, transportation, storage, and postal service are the most competitive ones but their advantages tend to decrease year by year. Therefore, Jiangxi province has to continue to develop and expand the competitive industries to strengthen industry competitiveness; accelerate the construction of medium and large - sized enterprises, and enlarge and strengthen small and medium - sized enterprises, and realize the diversification of industry structure subjects; constantly propel the development of modern service industry to promote Jiangxi forward the post - industrialization. At last based on the analysis we provide meaningful suggestions for adjustment of the industrial structure. Key words location quotient; industry structure; competitive industries
